Amsterdam Symphonic Band

The Amsterdam Symphonic Band

The Amsterdam Symphonic Band was founded in 2010 after the concert band of the Royal Dutch Shell Laboratories in Amsterdam was disbanded.

The band is dedicated to performing the best of the symphonic band repertoire. The band is the symphonic band of choice of the Amsterdam School of the Arts and is frequently invited to participate in conducting courses and exams of students in band conducting courses. Over the years, the band participated in the exams of over one hundred conductors graduating from the Amsterdam School of the Arts. The band also participates in masterclasses and performs the works of new composers.

The Amsterdam Symphonic Band is directed by Vincent van den Bijlaard, a distinguished composer and arranger, assistant director of the Police Band of the Netherlands, and professor at the Amsterdam School of the Arts and the University of Amsterdam. The band performs at the highest level in band competitions in The Netherlands, and participates in contests every three or four years to reestablish its status.
