The Amsterdam Symphonic Wind Orchestra (SHA) and the Dominucus church are preparing for a unique production: concert collaboration of a Harmonie with a Church organ.

A (church) organ and a wind orchestra form a special combination. The organ, in fact a very extensive wind instrument, together with a well-filled wind orchestra with wind and percussion. In fact, this automatically leads to a uniqueness. On Saturday evening, April 6, you can be present at this special spectacle.

In the more than 100-year history of the organ of the Dominicus church, there have been a series of additions to the register. As a result, this organ is one of the few extremely suitable for the combination with a harmony.

We are going to do this with Organist Jan Pieter Lanooy. Jan Pieter (1993) obtained his Master’s degree in Organ – with honors – at the Conservatory of The Hague with Jos van der Kooy. He performs very regularly all over the country, both solo and with other instrumentalists and ensembles.

The repertoire for this concert will include:

  • Part of the ‘Organ Symphony’ by Camille Saint-Saëns (1886), one of the most famous pieces for organ and orchestra
  • The Concertino for organ and wind orchestra by the Swiss composer Thomas Trachsel
  • The Serenade by Derek Bourgeois. Bourgeois wrote this short piece for his own wedding. Because of the irregular time signature, it was not possible to ‘enter the church’ while leaving the church size.
